Couple of things...Running the Blue Ridge Half Marathon, the star has always been such an emotional point. It's the first big milestone during the run. I cried on my first run.
While in college, I worked on a research project for the Roanoke Times. We interviewed a random sampling of citizens throughout the city. One question we asked was about the Star - should it stay or go. The passion people felt about out very namesake was incredible.
Finally, I travel a lot for work. Nothing makes me happier than to come home and fly over that beautiful shiny star.
