Description

Dedicated in 1967 and financed through the sale of bond proceeds, the Salem-Roanoke Valley Civic Center opened as a recreational and cultural center for Salem. Noted historian Norwood Middleton termed this as “the single most talked-about project in Salem’s history.” The arena was first used on September 25, 1967, for a meeting of the Virginia Education Association.
